How to Create a Custom Home Page and a Separate Page for Blog Posts in WordPress

By default, WordPress shows your most recent blog posts on the front page of your site. WordPress comes with built-in support for creating a splash page as the front page(static front page), and a separate page for blog posts.

From your admin panel go to Setttings » Reading. Scroll down to Front page displays option. But before going there, you need to create 2 new pages.

  • Step1: Create templates (optional. You can skip this step)

  • Step2: Add New Pages – Create a Front Page

    • From your admin left menu, go to Pages >> Add New.
    • Enter title “Home”.
    • Add content you would like to see within the content area of the static front page, or leave it blank if it is a Dynamic front page.
    • Select the Template(home page) in the Page Attributes panel box.(Do this only if you followed step1. Otherwise skip this step. )
    • Publish the Page.
  • Step3: Add New Pages – Create a Blog Page

    • From your admin left menu, go to Pages >> Add New.
    • Enter title “Blog”.
    • Leave content blank .
    • Select the Template (default template) in the Page Attributes panel box.
    • Publish the Page.
  • Step4: Set up Front page and post page displays

    • Go to Administration > Settings > Reading panel.
    • In the drop down menu for Front Page select “Home.”
    • In the drop down menu for Posts page select “Blog” .
    • Save changes.
